Beta-Readers

When it comes to reading and writing fanfiction a good beta-reader will usually make a good story even better.

For some writers a beta-reader is there to pick up on their spelling or grammar mistakes, other times a beta may be used to clarify certain plot points (does the story maintain the flow of the original tv series etc) while other times a beta is used to make sure the characters don’t stray to far from their path.

Unfortunately, when it comes to fanfiction, all too often what could be a potentially great story goes unrewarded as the original writer didn’t have anyone to give their story a once-over. Whether that’s just a general read through or a fine-toothed comb nitpick doesn’t matter, we all make mistakes. Yes even the best writers out there will have a type or two in their writing. In fact this article here points out some pitfalls when it comes to fanfiction most of which could be avoided with the use of a beta-reader.

With that in mind, and as part of the fanfiction archive I’ve just set-up a forum for beta-readers. It’s my hope that in this forum those writers that are struggling to find someone to give their story a once over will now be able to find the help they’re after, and anyone out there that is already a beta-reader, or interested in becoming one can easily match themselves up with someone looking for their help
